Healthcare Nursing, Obstetrics
Located within the Inuvik Regional Hospital and reporting directly to the Manager, Acute Care, the Obstetric Registered Nurse (Obstetric RN) on Acute Care is one of the Registered Nurses (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) providing culturally sensitive care to patients of the 14-bed Acute Care unit 24 hours a day year-round. The Inuvik Regional Hospital provides birthing services and, therefore, must always have one obstetric trained registered nurse staffed every shift 24 hours a day year-round to provide safe obstetrical services and to minimize any risks.
Every registered nurse on Acute Care may be required to act as the responsibility nurse (charge nurse) depending on staff make up and experience of the staff on duty during a particular shift. The RN OBS also works as an acute care nurse, who cares for patients across the lifespan and medical conditions when there are insufficient obstetrical patients to care for.
When obstetrical care is required, the RN will re-assign their medical patients to a team member and take primary assignment of the obstetrical patient.
