Interim Payroll Manager (Workday)
Location: Inver Grove Heights, MN – This is a hybrid role requiring weekly onsite presence in Inver Grove Heights. Only local applicants in Minnesota will be eligible for consideration.
Pay Rate: $45–$55/hr (depending on experience)

Addison Group is supporting the search for an Interim Payroll Manager on behalf of a mission-driven organization based in Inver Grove Heights. This role requires experience with Workday and is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume payroll environment and enjoys leading process improvements while supporting a collaborative payroll team.
The right individual will bring strong leadership experience, technical payroll expertise, and the ability to navigate complex, multi-state payroll operations with accuracy and care. It’s a great fit for someone who values both people and process, balancing compliance, mentorship, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities- Oversee day-to-day payroll operations for a large, multi-state employee population
- Lead, mentor, and support the payroll team to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing
- Serve as the Workday subject matter expert, driving process enhancements and resolving system issues
- Partner with HR, Accounting, and leadership on audits, reconciliations, and compliance initiatives
- Manage payroll tax reporting and ensure adherence to multi-state laws and regulations
- Support special projects, acquisitions, and system rollouts as needed
- 8–10+ years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership or management roles
- Hands-on experience with Workday Payroll required
- Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll, compliance, and payroll tax
- Advanced Excel skills with exposure to additional systems (ADP, Paycor, or similar)
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, HR, or related field preferred; CPP certification a plus
