This is a site-based role, and you will be required on site 5 days per week. The project is based in the Inverness area.
Salary: £44,000- £65,900 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Role OverviewThe Site Construction Manager will be crucial in managing the project, involving the construction of both new substations, overhead line and underground cable routes, thereby ensuring strict adherence to health, safety, environmental and quality standards. The role is initially based in the north of Scotland, where you will primarily be based during the project. You'll be a trusted representative of SSEN Transmission on-site, building strong relationships and fostering a collaborative culture.
The project is a key part of our commitment to delivering a Network for Net Zero.
- Represent SSEN Transmission on-site as a key point of contact, supporting the construction of new HV substations, transmission overhead lines and underground cables.
- Ensure the project meets all statutory, legal, health and safety, CDM, quality, and stakeholder requirements.
- Work closely with contractors and SSEN teams to deliver the programme safely and efficiently, while nurturing a positive and inclusive site culture.
- Provide clear and consistent reporting to the Project Manager, ensuring contractors deliver detailed weekly updates on safety, quality, and testing.
- Build strong relationships with contractors, suppliers, and the local community, acting as a visible leader and champion for safety and collaboration.
- Solid engineering or construction knowledge with a strong understanding of safety requirements, including the application of CDM 2015 Regulations.
- Relevant qualifications in engineering and/or construction management, with experience overseeing complex works in construction, utilities or electrical installation. CSCS Supervisor/Manager and SSSTS/SMSTS (or equivalents) are preferred.
- On site experience in construction or commissioning of transmission assets or similar large infrastructure projects, with good understanding of NEC contracts and ideally previous NEC Supervisor experience. Strong inspection skills across health, safety and quality.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, confident representing the project internally and externally. Proficient in Microsoft Office, with desirable experience using systems such as ACC/BIM.
- A confident, inclusive leadership style with effective conflict resolution skills, able to challenge appropriately, oversee site activities professionally, and track progress against plans while maintaining accurate documentation (e.g., reports, diaries).
A full driving licence and willingness to be site-based five days a week during the construction phase.
