For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office - Inverness, Aberdeen or Perth.

SSEN Transmission has an opportunity for a Safety, Health & Wellbeing (SHW) Advisor to join the SHW Team. This role will provide proactive, pragmatic SHW and CDM advice across Transmission projects, with a particular focus on development, design, planning, pre-construction and advanced works, while supporting the transition into delivery and construction-phase activity.

Working closely with project teams, designers, duty holders, contract partners and other stakeholders, you’ll help ensure SHW risks are identified, understood and managed throughout the project lifecycle. This will include supporting safety in design, design risk management, early works such as site surveys, ground investigations, public road improvements and site clearance, alongside the development of suitable arrangements for construction-phase delivery.

The role would suit someone with a strong background in CDM, construction safety, design risk management or occupational SHW who can apply practical judgement across complex infrastructure projects. You’ll help teams comply with UK health and safety legislation, CDM requirements, internal SHW procedures and safe systems of work, while supporting our ambition to create a healthy, happy and safe workplace.

• Provide proactive and pragmatic SHW and CDM advice, engagement and guidance to Transmission project teams and supporting directorates, with a primary focus on development, design, planning, pre-construction and advanced works, while supporting effective handover into delivery and construction.
• Support project teams, designers and duty holders to identify, assess and manage SHW risks throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring design risk management processes are implemented, recorded, reviewed and maintained.
• Assist those appointed to carry out the duties of Client, Principal Designer and Designer to comply with CDM Regulations, Safe Systems of Work procedures and relevant Transmission SHW Management System requirements.
• Work with project teams during development, pre-construction and advanced works to ensure suitable strategies are in place to manage interfaces, temporary works, surveys, ground investigations, site clearance, public road improvements and the coordination of ongoing design work during construction.
• Complete assurance activities on and off site, monitor SHW performance, support effective incident reporting and management, and help identify trends, learning and improvement opportunities.

• Experience of applying SHW and CDM requirements across construction or infrastructure projects, preferably with strong exposure to development, design, planning, pre-construction or early works activity.
• A qualification in occupational safety, construction safety, CDM, design risk management or a related SHW discipline. A NEBOSH Diploma, equivalent qualification or membership of IOSH or a similar professional body would be beneficial.
• Good working knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and the ability to provide practical advice to Client, Principal Designer, Designer and project team duty holders.
