The role

As part of our Net Zero journey, the Onshore AC Project Engineering team is seeking a Senior Cable Project Engineer to join our new Customer Connections team. You’ll support the rapid delivery of a large volume of cable connection projects, applying standardised designs, innovative routing techniques and efficient construction methodologies to accelerate customer connections across the high‑voltage network.

You will
  • Provide specialist HV cable engineering leadership, helping deliver multiple projects quickly and consistently through standardised cable system designs and efficient engineering practices.
  • Support and mentor early‑career engineers, promoting skills growth, shared learning and a strong, collaborative Cable discipline.
  • Lead cable design development and assurance, championing innovations such as standard trench designs, pre‑approved routes, optimised jointing layouts and techniques that speed up installation.
  • Contribute to senior design reviews, cable system approvals and scope development, ensuring designs meet programme, regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Work closely with delivery partners and supply chain specialists, ensuring cable designs are buildable, compliant and aligned to accelerated construction and a consistent, streamlined handover.
You have
  • Technical expertise of High Voltage Cables and experience working on the Transmission Network, with a commitment to high‑quality, reliable engineering outcomes.
  • A keen focus on design standardisation and driving continuous improvements in business processes, procedures and systems and a passion for developing Pipelines Engineers.
  • Understanding the technical requirements for design, planning, operation and development of the transmission network and aspects requiring coordination with other project disciplines.
  • Effective communication skills, and you must be able to communicate often complex technical issues clearly and concisely to facilitate decision making by senior management.
  • Achieved, or actively working towards, Chartered Engineering Status.
