SSEN Transmission is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to support the delivery of a major capital cable infrastructure project. Leading multidisciplinary engineering activities across land and subsea cable systems, you'll provide technical leadership, governance and design assurance throughout design, construction and commissioning.

Working closely with project, construction, commercial and contractor teams, you'll help manage technical risk, coordinate engineering interfaces and ensure successful project delivery while maintaining robust engineering standards.

This is primarily an office-based role, with regular travel to project sites across the north of Scotland and Western Isles. You'll have the opportunity to work directly with site teams and experience first‑hand the construction of nationally significant energy infrastructure in some of Scotland's most unique and inspiring locations.

You will
  • Lead engineering management activities across detailed design, construction and commissioning, providing clear technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage technical governance, design assurance, engineering risk and change control processes, ensuring compliance with SSEN standards and project requirements.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces across multiple disciplines and project teams, ensuring engineering decisions are aligned and project risks are understood and effectively managed.
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering collaboration, capability and a strong engineering culture across the project.
  • Promote excellence in safety, quality and technical assurance, supporting CDM requirements and maintaining engineering oversight throughout construction and commissioning.
You have
  • A degree in an engineering discipline, with Chartered Engineer status preferred.
  • Significant engineering management experience on large-scale capital infrastructure projects, including design and construction delivery phases.
  • Experience operating within client, contractor or major project delivery environments, leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of technical governance, design assurance, engineering risk management and change control within complex project environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical matters clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Knowledge of electricity networks, transmission infrastructure, cable projects or the wider energy sector would be beneficial but is not essential.

Not sure if you meet every requirement?

We know that not everyone will meet every requirement listed above. If you're excited about this opportunity and believe your skills and experience are transferable, we'd encourage you to apply. We're particularly interested in hearing from experienced Engineering Managers from a variety of infrastructure and capital project backgrounds who can bring fresh perspectives and expertise to our team.
