Overview

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinically focused and motivated pharmacist to join the clinical pharmacy team at Raigmore Hospital. This post will support the pharmacy team within medical, oncology, surgical and womens & children.

Responsibilities

This role includes rotations in gastroenterology, respiratory, general surgery and surgical admissions, acute medicine, cardiology, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, oncology, haematology, critical care, paediatrics & neonates, renal and care of the elderly. You will develop clinical skills to support lead pharmacists in other areas such as rheumatology, neurology, dermatology, antimicrobials, maternity, diabetes / endocrinology and high dependency units. The range of specialties offers a diverse experience while gaining specialist knowledge and skills.

You will work across different sub-specialties with rotations agreed to suit training needs and service demands.

The successful candidate will receive supervision, training and support from lead pharmacists and other pharmacy team members; no prior experience in these clinical areas is required.

You will assist with the training and development of pharmacy students, trainees, junior pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Clinical pharmacy technicians are embedded within the team and there are opportunities for pharmacy support workers to contribute within the overall skill set. The team is also involved in education and training of the wider MDT, including medical students and medical/nursing staff.

Development opportunities include quality improvement projects, audits and participation in governance groups such as sub-groups of the Area Drug and Therapeutics Committee.

Qualifications and Skills

Candidates should be good communicators; enthusiastic; self-motivated; strong team players; curious and eager to learn; and able to problem solve and prioritise. You will be a registered pharmacist with a Masters Degree in Pharmacy and relevant post-registration experience. Post-graduate qualifications including a Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy and Independent Prescribing are desirable, but we would facilitate the right candidate to achieve these within the role.

The department prioritises education and supports pharmacists becoming credentialed at RPS Core Advanced level.

You should also have transferable experience across pharmacy sectors, as this role offers opportunities to build on those skills. The department is implementing HEPMA across NHS Highland sites and has installed robotics in the dispensary and distribution services to improve patient safety and efficiency.

Work Environment and Benefits

Inverness offers a balanced lifestyle with access to the Highlands. Raigmore Hospital provides a welcoming and supportive environment, with the wider hospital team.

You will be required to work in emergency on-call, weekend, and public holiday rotas.
