Transform Breast Cancer Care Across the Highlands

NHS Highland is seeking an experienced, innovative and highly motivated Senior Breast Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our established Highland Breast Unit based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

This is an exciting new opportunity for an accomplished breast care nurse to practise at an advanced level within a progressive and developing breast cancer service. As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, you will provide expert clinical leadership, advanced assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and holistic support for patients across breast screening, symptomatic breast services and family history pathways.

Working autonomously and collaboratively, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and developing nurse-led services, enhancing patient experience, and delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to people affected by breast cancer throughout NHS Highland.

About

The Role
  • Lead and manage a specialist caseload across breast cancer, symptomatic breast and family history services.
  • Undertake advanced clinical assessment, investigation and decision-making within nurse-led clinics.
  • Develop expertise in diagnostic procedures including breast examination, imaging pathways and biopsy techniques.
  • Lead and coordinate family history and risk assessment services.
  • Support patients through diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, ensuring person-centred, shared decision-making.
  • Provide expert advice and education to patients, families and healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to service improvement, research, audit and quality initiatives.
  • Influence the development of regional and national breast cancer practice through professional leadership and collaboration.
  • Support education, training and professional development across the multidisciplinary team.
Essential Requirements To Apply
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • First degree in Nursing and evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Significant post-registration experience, including experience working within breast care.
  • Advanced knowledge and expertise in breast disorders and breast cancer care.
  • Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership, influencing and service development capabilities.
  • Experience of audit, quality improvement and research activity.
  • Excellent communication, teaching and consultation skills.
  • Independent Prescribing qualification or willingness to work towards this.
  • Ability to work autonomously whilst contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong IT and digital literacy skills.
Desirable Requirements
  • Master's level study or working towards Master's qualification.
  • Advanced practice qualification relevant to breast care.
  • Experience leading nurse-led services.
  • Experience presenting or publishing research findings.
  • Knowledge of genetic risk assessment and family history services.
