Health and Safety Specialist

Construction & Contracting Health & Safety Advisor – Highland and North Grampian Area (North of Scotland, occasional travel to other regions & the Central Belt)

At Scottish Water, we care for Scotland’s most precious natural resource, and we are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join our Construction & Enablement (C&E) Team. The role is hybrid (predominantly on‑site with flexibility for home or hub working) and plays a key part in driving a positive safety culture across our Capital Investment Programme and operational activities.

• Provide expert health and safety advice and support across the business; ensure compliance with legislation while aligning with the company’s strategic goals.
• Identify, assess and manage risks and develop continuous improvement of safety standards, procedures and controls.
• Lead and contribute to incident investigations, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Champion safe working practices for high‑risk activities such as excavations, working at height, lifting operations, COSHH, DSEAR, confined spaces and lone working.
• Design and deliver engaging training, collaborate with managers on improvement plans and audit management systems across operations, suppliers and contractors.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels; positively influence behaviours and embed high safety standards throughout Scottish Water.

• NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum). NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards one) is advantageous.
• Operational health and safety experience, ideally within construction or utilities sectors.
• Strong understanding of current legislation, industry standards and best practice.
• Full GB‑issued (DVLA) driving licence; comfortable travelling across a large geographical area within the North of Scotland.
• Practical, solutions‑focused mindset and confidence to influence people at all levels.
• Experience working independently in a large geographical area.

• Competitive salary – £37,815 to £48,395 (Grade
  6), performance‑driven progression.
