Site-based Are you an experienced Health and Safety Advisor with a background in energy from waste, biomass, power generation, utilities, process engineering or heavy industry ? We are recruiting for a proactive and practical Health and Safety Advisor to support operations at a live energy facility in Forth, near Lanark. This is a highly visible, site-based role where you will work closely with the Plant Manager, operational teams, contractors and the Group Head of Health and Safety.

You will become the principal source of day-to-day health and safety guidance on site, helping to maintain legal compliance, improve safety performance and embed a positive, proactive safety culture. The Health and Safety Advisor role As Health and Safety Advisor, you will take ownership of site health and safety activity, providing practical advice and support within a busy operational plant environment.

You will lead behavioural safety initiatives, conduct audits and inspections, support incident investigations and help maintain the sites health and safety management systems. The role also includes significant involvement in planned plant outages, where you will form a key part of the outage-management team. Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the Plant Manager with legislative, Group and site health and safety requirements Acting as the site lead for behavioural safety, compliance and continuous improvement Providing practical health and safety advice to employees, managers and contractors Developing, implementing and reviewing site health and safety procedures Supporting the implementation and continued development of ISO 45001 Maintaining the health and safety elements of the Integrated Business Management System Monitoring site health and safety performance and identifying areas for improvement Leading and supporting incident and near-miss investigations Completing root-cause analysis and ensuring lessons learned are embedded Monitoring corrective actions arising from incidents, audits and inspections Producing detailed incident reports and weekly health and safety reports Acting as a super-user for the incident-reporting system Delivering guidance and training to system users Conducting regular workplace inspections and safety observations Developing and managing the site audit and inspection programme Supporting contractor management and safe systems of work Advising on operational risk, permits, risk assessments and method statements Representing the site at Group and UK health and safety forums Supporting the Plant Manager when dealing with clients, regulators and external bodies Planned outage responsibilities During planned plant outages, you will play a central role in ensuring work is completed safely and in line with site, Group and legal requirements.

This will include:
Developing the outage health and safety plan Supporting CDM compliance and contractor-management arrangements Agreeing appropriate out-of-hours health and safety coverage Auditing permits, risk assessments and method statements Conducting safety inspections, surveillance and compliance audits Supporting incident investigations during outage activity Attending outage-planning and operational meetings Advising managers, engineers and contractors on safe working practices Producing detailed health and safety summaries for outage reports Skills and experience required To be considered for this Health and Safety Advisor position, you should have: A minimum NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Previous health and safety experience within energy from waste, biomass, power generation, utilities, process manufacturing or heavy industry Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and recognised best practice Experience working within a live operational, engineering or industrial environment Experience conducting health and safety audits and workplace inspections Practical incident-investigation and root-cause-analysis experience Working knowledge of ISO management systems, ideally including ISO 45001 The confidence to challenge unsafe practices constructively The ability to influence employees, managers and contractors at all levels Strong organisational and communication skills Excellent written reporting skills Good IT skills Membership of a relevant professional health and safety body An auditor qualification, formal incident-investigation training or previous experience acting as a lead investigator would be advantageous.
