DescriptionWe are looking for a detail-oriented Technician to perform high‑quality testing and analysis of construction materials such as aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and soils. The role involves conducting laboratory and site‑based testing to ensure materials meet required specifications and standards. You will support quality assurance and control processes, helping to maintain the integrity and compliance of materials used in construction or production.
This is a hands‑on role, ideal for someone with a technical mindset and a passion for working in both lab and field environments.
- Perform routine laboratory and field testing on materials including soils, aggregates, concrete and asphalt
- Ensure testing is carried out in line with industry standards and project specifications
- Prepare test samples and carry out testing to assess strength, composition, durability, and performance of materials
- Record, analyse, and report test results accurately and in a timely manner
- Maintain cleanliness, calibration, and safe operation of testing equipment
- Assist in collecting material samples from construction or quarry sites, often working outdoors
- Support the quality assurance process by identifying non‑conforming materials and reporting findings
- Prepare and participate in internal and external audits and inspections from independent accrediting bodies
- Troubleshoot issues with tests, materials, or equipment and recommend corrective actions
- Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, Science, and English (minimum)
- Good understanding of basic maths and scientific principles
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording data
- Practical, hands‑on approach to work
- Ability to follow procedures and technical instructions
- Have the awareness to work safely on a construction site or production depot
- Willing to be flexible in your working pattern
- Valid UK driving licence essential for site‑based work
- Previous experience in sampling and testing of construction is advantageous but not essential as full training will be provided
- Proficient in using testing equipment and tools for laboratory and field tests
- Sound knowledge of testing standards and methods (BS, EN, ASTM, ISO)
- Willingness to work towards a relevant qualification in Construction Materials Testing (e.g. HNC/HND, NVQ Level
3)
