Lead Quality. Influence Change. Improve Performance. Balfour Beatty is looking for a dynamic, confident and highly influential Quality and Business Performance Lead to shape and lead our quality strategy across Regional Scotland.

This is a senior, visible position for someone who is comfortable challenging established ways of working, engaging with senior stakeholders and driving accountability across complex projects and frameworks.

You could currently be working within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor, construction consultancy, engineering organisation, infrastructure business or the oil and gas sector. Your background is important, but your ability to lead, influence and bring people with you will be equally critical.

You will champion a Right First-Time culture, ensuring that quality is embedded throughout the business rather than treated simply as a compliance exercise.

What you'll be doing

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the quality strategy and promote a Right First Time approach across Regional Scotland.
  • Develop, implement and continually improve our Quality Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 55001 and relevant client, regulatory and industry requirements.
  • Lead quality audits, inspections, management reviews and improvement programmes.
  • Analyse project and business performance data, identifying trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Develop meaningful performance metrics, dashboards and reports for the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Lead investigations into quality incidents and ensure lessons learned result in lasting improvements.
  • Work closely with operational, commercial, design, technical and work‑winning teams.
  • Represent Regional Scotland at client meetings, quality forums and wider business work streams.
  • Coach, mentor and develop quality professionals and project teams.
  • Challenge poor performance constructively and hold stakeholders accountable for agreed actions.
Who we're looking for

We are looking for a credible and resilient leader with the confidence to operate across all levels of the organisation.

  • Experience in quality assurance, quality management, business performance or continuous improvement.
  • A background in construction, infrastructure, engineering, consultancy, contracting or oil and gas.
  • Experience working within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contracting environment would be advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of Quality Management Systems and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • The confidence and presence to challenge, influence and gain commitment from senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into clear actions and improvements.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and relationship‑building skills.
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver to demanding deadlines.
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused approach with the resilience to drive change.
  • The ability to coach and develop others while creating a collaborative and accountable culture.

A relevant quality qualification or professional accreditation would be beneficial, although we are equally interested in candidates who can demonstrate substantial practical experience and a strong record of improving quality performance.

The person

This opportunity will suit someone with a strong professional presence who is not afraid to ask difficult questions or challenge the status quo.

You will be engaging and collaborative, but also decisive when action is required. You will have the confidence to walk onto a major project, engage with senior leaders and frontline teams, identify what needs to improve and ensure that agreed actions are delivered.

You will be based within the Central Belt or North of Scotland and comfortable travelling to projects and offices throughout Scotland when required.

Why join Balfour Beatty?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a highly influential regional role within one of the UK’s leading infrastructure businesses.
