Job Description

Our organisation has a long history in the Highlands and across Scotland and is recognised for delivering safe, efficient and cost‑effective transportation and logistics services to a wide range of customers. Based in Huntly or Inverness, you will be joining a collaborative and supportive team that plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth and reliable transport operations across the country.

Your new role

We are looking for a Fleet Manager to support the business of our client and this role will require regular travel to their sites. The Fleet Manager will oversee the operational and technical aspects of our road tanker fleet, reporting directly to the Operations Director. They will serve as the primary technical authority on all matters related to road tankers, ensuring optimal performance, compliance and cost‑effective management.

The primary objective is to keep our fleet on the road and readily available, collaborating closely with regional General Managers, Depot Managers and third‑party service providers to enhance our fleet's efficiency and safety. They will ensure the fleet remains consistently roadworthy and reliable by promptly addressing recurring issues, defects and potential maintenance delays to return vehicles to service as quickly as possible.

They will review truck capacities and condition, collaborate with the Operations Director on fleet replacement programmes through CAPEX budgeting, specify truck requirements and manage the purchase and sale of vehicles with the approval of the Operations Director.

What you’ll need to succeed

Transport Manager CPC qualification would be a preference. Proven experience in fleet management, with a strong emphasis on road tankers and fuel goods vehicles. Deep technical understanding of road tanker components, maintenance practices and specifications. Willingness and ability to drive HGVs as part of the commissioning and testing process for new fleet additions. Experience with supplier management and contract negotiation. Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage and report on costs.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating effectively across departments.

What you’ll get in return

You will join a respected and growing organisation that values its people and invests in operational excellence. This permanent, full‑time role offers a competitive salary and the opportunity to develop your career within a high‑performing team at the heart of Scotland’s transport sector. You will gain vital experience and work in a collaborative and supportive team.
