Dental Hygienist (60% - 80%) – Periodontics, College of Dentistry
The University of Iowa College of Dentistry seeks an enthusiastic Dental Hygienist passionate about patient care to join our Periodontics department. You will provide comprehensive hygiene care and education in a rewarding, fast‑paced setting alongside multiple providers.
Responsibilities- Perform oral prophylaxis and therapeutic periodontal scaling and root planing.
- Administer local anesthesia and use nitrous oxide as permitted.
- Apply fluoride and other preventive treatments.
- Conduct oral inspections, including oral cancer screening.
- Record findings and maintain accurate electronic dental charts.
- Take digital radiographs and record present oral conditions.
- Advise and instruct patients on proper oral hygiene, diet, and tobacco impact.
- Associates degree from a CODA‑accredited Dental Hygiene program or equivalent.
- Unrestricted Iowa dental hygiene license.
- Current local anesthesia permit (if applicable).
- Knowledge of electronic health records and radiology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with electronic health records.
- Periodontal dental hygiene experience.
- Experience educating dental students in the role of the hygienist.
$47,500.80 – $63,334.40 annual, commensurate with qualifications (SEIU Pay Grade 06). Salary may be higher based on experience. Hourly rate: $38.06.
Schedule24–32 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (some overtime possible). Part‑time. On‑site location:
College of Dentistry, Iowa City, IA.
