Data Science Position at the University of Iowa

The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Iowa invites applications for a tenure-track position in data science at the rank of assistant professor starting August 19, 2020.

Applicants must complete a Ph.D. in statistics or a related area prior to August 19, 2020. Candidates must be free to assume the duties of this position and be legally able to work in the United States on that date.

Excellent communication skills are essential. Research interests in areas of data science such as visualization, algorithms, statistical informatics, machine learning, and others are desirable. Successful applicants will demonstrate promise of excellence in scholarly research and teaching, with an interest in research collaboration. Opportunities exist for interdisciplinary research in medicine, public health, economics, environmental sciences, engineering, law, and justice.

The department has 19 faculty members, including six Fellows of the American Statistical Association. It offers Ph.D. degrees in statistics, M.S. degrees in actuarial science and statistics, and B.S. degrees in actuarial science, statistics, and data science. Faculty research interests include computational statistics, statistical genetics, spatial statistics, Bayesian inference, time series, data visualization, statistical learning, and actuarial science. The department maintains Linux and Windows networks and has invested in the university's high-performance computing cluster ().
