Support Services Specialist - Dental Patient Business Office

Join our Business Office team at the College of Dentistry! We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented person to play a key role in supporting our dentistry revenue cycle. You will be contributing to our success by helping patients navigate the complexities of insurance and ensuring their financial well-being! Responsibilities
  • Insurance Coordination and Financial Counseling/Planning
  • Counsel dental students and patients on estimated insurance coverage/benefits and out of pocket expenses for upcoming appointments.
  • Set up monthly payment plans per college guidelines.
  • Advise providers on maximizing insurance benefits for patient care.
  • Communicate insurance coverage lapses or maxed benefits to providers and managers.
  • Forward preauthorization and claim appeal requests to appropriate offices.
  • Monitor patient accounts, initiate refunds, and contact delinquent accounts.
  • Account Management:
    Collect balances and down-payments, record transactions in Patient Accounting System (PAS); reconcile cash collections, ensuring financial accuracy; process card.
  • Student

    Education:

    Instruct students on checking insurance eligibility and benefits; guide students in formulating affordable treatment plans; communicate necessary documentation for successful insurance claims adjudication.
  • Communication and

    Collaboration:

    Share relevant information with the team for streamlined operations; direct patient complaints to Patient Representatives for resolution.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • High level, fast‑paced customer service experience in a financial, health care, or other relevant environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, calendaring, and presentation software (Microsoft or Google).
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism and handle difficult and complex situations.
  • Demonstrated active listening skills.
  • Experience utilizing conflict management/resolution skills and de‑escalation techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate positive outcomes by collaborating and working in a team environment.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Knowledge of healthcare billing and revenue cycle.
  • Awareness of evolving insurance industry submission trends/changes.
  • Experience utilizing electronic health records.
  • Knowledge of dental/medical terminology.

Compensation and Schedule

Salary: $49,968 (Pay Grade: 3A)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm (may require occasional overtime)

Work Location: On‑Site
