Laboratory Technician II - UIDL 1st Shift

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Laboratory Technician II to, under general supervision, provides technical and other computer/clerical support related to the accessioning and client service functions of an outreach reference laboratory. Performs a variety of triaging tasks related to receiving and processing client specimens through to Iowa Health Care laboratories for complex testing in an efficient manner. Act as a liaison with clients and laboratory staff to coordinate specimen preparation, transport, and complex testing.

Duties to include:

  • Registers patients and accessions, handles, and triages specimens sent by clients destined for UIHC laboratories.
  • Maintains the work environment.
  • Answers the telephone and responds to email requests demonstrating effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates time management skills.
  • Performs other projects and tasks as assigned.

The Department of Pathology is part of UI Health Care, a comprehensive health sciences center that serves Iowa and the region, as well as patients referred from the United States and overseas. Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • High school plus two years of related laboratory experience, including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, or
  • Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, or
  • Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.

Desirable

Qualifications:

  • MLA(ASCP) certification or eligible.
  • Familiarity with UIHC policies and procedures.
