The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the Department of Surgery's Vascular Surgery division functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients in the Vascular Surgery Clinic. Performs direct patient care, including pre‑ and post‑operative surgical management and management of acute and chronic diseases common in Vascular Surgery.
Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic Vascular Surgery health needs.
- Assures clinical competency and expertise in Vascular Surgery. Follows universal precautions.
- Functions independently and/or as a member of a multidisciplinary team to plan, deliver, and evaluate health care for Vascular Surgery patient population.
- Procedures in accordance with privileging process to be directed by patient care needs.
- Develop and implement outpatient treatment plan with the multidisciplinary team, including admissions, pre‑ and post‑operative management, and procedures.
- Provide anticipatory guidance, counseling, and education to patients and their families about vascular conditions and surgical procedures. Educates APPs, residents, medical students, and nursing staff regarding treatment plans.
- Documents patient assessment, plan of care, and treatment progress in the medical record. Writes admission, history, physical, and clinic notes in an accurate and concise manner with documentation for appropriate billing.
- Collaborate with Vascular Surgery physicians, APPs, and administration to monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care.
- Maintains effective working relationships with faculty, staff, residents, students, and the public.
- Evaluate and interpret pertinent lab and imaging studies.
- Participates in development and implementation of divisional and departmental quality assessment/improvement/research programs and processes.
- Contributes toward the achievement of divisional and departmental goals as delegated.
- Participates in activities that enhance clinical expertise.
Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the Department.

- Master's or Doctorate degree from accredited Nursing program with Adult/Gero‑Acute Care certification and/or Family Nurse Practitioner certification is required.
- Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the state of Iowa.
- Active Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse licenses in the state of Iowa.
- Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire.
- Possesses the requisite knowledge and clinical skills to provide care to the adult and geriatric populations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize workflow.
- Ability and willingness to learn and assist with Vascular Surgery procedures and management.
- Active BLS certification.
- Two years of relevant experience in a surgery or clinic environment.
- Previous operating room experience.
- Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnoses, pathophysiology, pharmacology, management of acute and chronic Vascular Surgery diagnoses.
- Ability to function with a high degree of independence in a collaborative and multidisciplinary team providing care for highly complex patients.
- Experience with data and quality management projects.
- ACLS certification.
