The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse (RN) for the Ortho Unit (3

RCE). The Ortho Unit is part of UI Health Care's Medical Surgical Services (MSS) division. 3

RCE is a 48-bed adult orthopedic surgical unit. Unit staff provides care for patients who experience trauma, tumor removal, reconstructive joint surgery, spine surgery, hand surgery, foot surgery, amputations, sports injuries, skeletal traction, and wound care.

In April 2023, our acute orthopedics unit (3 RCP) expanded to become a 48-bed adult surgical unit focusing on the care of orthopedics, trauma, and spine patients. Our staff is full of motivated individuals that are passionate about the quality of care they provide.

• Unit staff provides care for patients who experience: traumas/orthopedic injuries (motor vehicle accidents, fractures, skeletal traction, etc.); reconstructive joint surgery (hip, knee, shoulder); osteosarcoma removal and reconstruction; spine surgery; hand surgery; foot and ankle surgery; amputations; sports injuries; young adult hip preservation procedures.

Percent of Time: 60% (24 hours/weekend)

Schedule: Weekend option, Night shifts

• An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
• General computer skills are required, including proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel
• Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.

• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is highly desired
• If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable
