Diesel Bus Technician

Diesel School Bus Mechanic
Iowa City, IA
Shift - Monday - Friday, 1st Shift
Hours to be set once the candidate accepts
Pay: $24-29 per hour

Requirements:

• Servicing gasoline and diesel-powered buses, from basic maintenance and minor repairs to full vehicle service
• Diagnose mechanical defects and carry out preventive maintenance
• Perform major and minor overhauls of engines and transmissions
• Service and maintain brakes, air compressors, fuel systems, ignitions, HVAC systems, and wheelchair lifts
• Service and maintain vehicle air conditioning units
• Inspect and repair school buses according to DOT requirements
• Keep records of time and materials used

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

• Experience with medium-duty buses, preferably International Truck/Bus
• Must have your own set of tools
• Knowledge of codes and laws related to pupil transportation (e.g., IDOT inspections)
• CDL Class B License with air brake endorsement preferred
• A/C Certification
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including effective communication with internal and external customers
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain a positive attitude while providing excellent customer service
• Ability to work independently and complete assignments timely

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform essential job functions safely and successfully, complying with ADA, FMLA, and other standards, including meeting productivity standards
• Regular, punctual attendance is required
• Ability to communicate clearly via talking, listening, and speaking on the phone
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
