Position

Description:

A Postdoctoral Scholar position is available in translational and clinical ophthalmology research under the joint mentorship of Dr. Elliott Sohn and Dr. Tahreem Mir in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. The research program focuses on diabetes-related eye disease, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and other ophthalmic conditions, with an emphasis on clinical data analysis, outcomes research, and advanced image analysis, including AI-enabled approaches.

The successful candidate will participate in human-subjects-based translational research, including analysis of ophthalmic imaging (e.g., OCT), clinical datasets, and patient-reported outcomes, and will contribute to manuscript preparation, grant writing, and collaborative multi-investigator projects. The position is well-suited for a physician-scientist pursuing advanced research training in academic ophthalmology.

The scholar may, however, assist with coordination of biospecimen banking (e.g., blood samples) from patients with diabetes and retinal disease in collaboration with clinical research teams.

Education Requirement:

Requires the practical or academic knowledge of clinical ophthalmology, AI, image analysis, and statistics plus the ability to translate, adapt and apply this knowledge that is generally associated with a PhD or MD, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible work experience.

Required Qualifications:

Experience in ophthalmology and research. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Research article authorship history in peer reviewed journals commensurate with years of experience. Must be proficient with computer software including Micro Soft Office, Adobe Acrobat and Excel database software.

Desirable

Qualifications:

Experience with statistical software (e.g., Graphpad/Prism, SPSS, STATA, R, Python or similar). Familiarity with AI-based or image-analysis research in medicine or ophthalmology. Interest in diabetes-related eye disease, AMD, and/or population-based ophthalmology research. Prior experience with IRB-approved human subjects research is desirable.
