Seasonal Day Camp Counselor

Under general supervision, the Day Camp Counselor provides care, supervision and program facilitation for assigned day camp attendees.

This position is essential and requires the day camp counselor to be present and prepared to work at the assigned location on the specified days and hours. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are essential functions although they are not routinely listed in job descriptions.

• Provides direct and shared supervision of up to 60 children (ages 6 to 12) in activities, crafts, songs, skits, games, hiking, field trips, scavenger hunts, swimming, and cook outs.
• Adheres to safe work conditions and reports potential hazards to supervisor.
• Performs first aid and/or CPR if necessary.
• Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND some previous experience working with children between the ages of 6-12; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

• Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
• Safety policies, procedures, and practices.
• Appropriate activities for children.
• Customer service principles, practices, and etiquette.

• Demonstrating patience and creativity needed to work with the appropriate age group.
• Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
• Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Must be CPR/First Aid certified or have the ability to obtain certification after hire.

Work is performed outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
