What to Expect

Tesla's factory design and planning team is looking for a highly motivated Architectural Designer to help drive the development of Gigafactory Nevada. The team is responsible for developing a factory design which supports seamless integration between production, material flow, construction, and facilities teams. Innovation is expected. Through a detailed understanding of the high-level factory objectives and extensive collaboration with the internal and external teams designing individual factory components, this team ensures that the factory design as a whole achieves all of Tesla's objectives.

The ideal candidate will excel in a demanding and fast‑paced environment where they will work as part of a strong, agile, and highly motivated team. A successful applicant will be an excellent communicator who takes pride in their thoroughness, analytical ability, organizational skills, and team mentality. The candidate will be able to think at a systems level about ambiguous problems and use strong logic to develop models that drive optimal factory design decisions.

What

You'll Do
  • Create and develop architectural designs and concepts for a variety of projects; produce detailed drawings, plans, and details using 3D BIM software.
  • Participate in all project phases, including conceptual design, presentations, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and production.
  • Coordinate with design team, consultants, contractors, fabricators, and other vendors to meet overall project objectives.
  • Collaborate with factory stakeholders including manufacturing, production, material flow, and industrial engineering to develop successful factory layouts.
  • Meet with stakeholders and conduct field walks to gather information necessary for design.
  • Allocate and optimize space for production lines and other supporting functions; perform design‑option analysis for cost efficiency and constructability.
  • Help develop Revit families, standard details, manage BIM files, and develop process improvements, workflows, and templates to increase design productivity.
What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Architecture, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in 2D & 3D software, most critically AutoCAD & Revit.
  • Good understanding of building codes and regulations, construction documentation, and detailing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, strong conflict management, able to work collaboratively with clients, engineers, and contractors.
  • Experience and knowledge of different project delivery methods, and an ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Experience in 3D rendering software such as 3ds Max, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and/or Sketch Up is an asset.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment or layout design for manufacturing or warehousing is an asset.
