Professorship in educational transitions (based either in Copenhagen or Aarhus)
The Danish School of Education (DPU) at the Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University invites applications for a permanent professorship in educational transitions, with a focus on educational and/or career guidance, career trajectories and transitions, and the barriers and enablers that influence these transitions.
The position is based at DPU, either at the Aarhus Campus or the Emdrup Campus (see DPU’s description below). Travel between the two campuses will be required. The expected start date is 1 June 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
PositionThe appointed professor will complement and contribute to the development of existing research and teaching within the field of education studies in relation to educational transitions. Responsibilities include teaching at Bachelor, Master, and professional Master’s level programmes, supervising PhD students, and engaging in public dissemination of research to relevant professional fields and the wider Danish public. The professor will also contribute to the department’s academic environment, management, and organisational boards.
ResearchWe seek a candidate with a research profile focused on educational transitions. The selected applicant must document a record of scientific production at the highest international level and scholarly contributions to theoretical, methodological, and empirical developments within the field.
TeachingThe applicant is expected to have solid experience teaching at university level and to lead the development of new degree programmes and teaching initiatives related to education science.
Talent DevelopmentDocumentation of experience supervising student projects and an interest in talent development are required. The applicant will recruit and supervise PhD students and contribute to PhD course implementation.
Knowledge ExchangeActive engagement in knowledge exchange—including collaborations with private companies, government consultancy, civil society actors, and public dissemination—is expected. Prior experience in knowledge exchange should be documented.
Qualifications- PhD or equivalent qualification in education or the social sciences
- Internationally oriented research and publication profile in educational transitions, educational and/or career guidance, career trajectories and transitions, and/or barriers and enablers in educational transitions
- Clear vision for future developments in the research field
- Experience in national and international networks
- Experience of research management and leadership, including development of early-career researchers
- Experience of securing external research funding
- Experience of communication and knowledge exchange
- Solid experience teaching at all university levels, including Bachelor’s, Master’s, and professional Master’s programmes
- Experience supervising student projects at all university levels
- Ability to teach and publish in English
