SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of an administrator, a special education teacher will be assigned a caseload and will implement school board policy regarding the educational curriculum of a particular instructional division and/or instructional unit.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of essential duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.
- Administer appropriate district curriculum aligned with Common Core State Standards and consistent with IEP instructions as needed.
- Design and implement effective lesson components for instruction and student assessments aligned with Common Core State Standards.
- Create coherent, differentiated instruction and student assessments aligned with Common Core State Standards at the appropriate instructional level for the student.
- Provide appropriate instructions, modifications, adaptations, and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP) in an organized manner.
- Analyze student progress and ensure assessment regulations and guidelines are followed.
- Demonstrate mastery of content, knowledge of students, and characteristics of students with disabilities.
- Set instructional outcomes for diverse learners.
- Create an environment of respect and rapport while promoting positive learning conditions.
- Maintain a positive, orderly, safe, and academically focused learning environment.
- Manage classroom procedures and student behavior.
- Demonstrate cultural competency.
- Communicate learning expectations to students.
- Engage students in learning.
- Utilize discussion and questioning techniques.
- Embed assessment in instruction.
- Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness.
- Demonstrate familiarity with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.
- Demonstrate knowledge of strategies and accommodations to assist students with disabilities.
- Coordinate effectively with other service staff in providing student instruction.
- Maintain accurate records and IEPs as mandated by state and federal guidelines.
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
- Support and communicate professionally with administrators, staff, and community.
- Promote meaningful participation of parents in the IEP process.

- Work as part of an education/assessment team responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating individual objectives for assigned students.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with student teaching experience and the ability to obtain a valid Nevada teaching license.
Knowledge of: Child development; behavior and characteristics of students; subject area and/or credential area of teaching; effective teaching skills; planning and organizing; assessment and diagnosis; interpersonal relations.
Skill at: Creating an effective learning environment, establishing effective working relationships, and utilizing technology in instruction and planning.
License/Certificates: Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Nevada teaching license in the relevant subject area/grade level.
Special Considerations: Additional pay may be provided for Department chair positions based on the number of teachers supervised.

Additional Job Information:
Special Education Teachers who join our school district during the 2024/25 school year will be eligible for a $5,000 Recruitment Bonus, contingent upon tenure.
Benefit packages are available for all employees regularly scheduled to work 27.5 hours per week or more and include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck for fingerprinting costs.
