2025-26 School Counselor (Anderson Elementary)

Bondurant-Farrar CSD is seeking a Professional School Counselor at Anderson Elementary(serving grades 2-5) for the 2025-26 school year.

• Minimally, professional school counselors will start on Step 1 of the MA+15 Lane.

TITLE: Professional School Counselor K-6

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s Degree in School Counseling
• Current licensure for school counseling in the State of Iowa

ROLE OF THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR:

The mission of the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District School Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive, K-12 school counseling program that is preventative in nature addressing the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students. In partnership with teachers, administrators, parents, students, and the community, the school counselors will help all students strive to be successful lifelong learners, problem-solvers, and productive citizens.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

• Direct Student Services
• Instruction
  • Implement and teach the school counseling curriculum to students focused on selected student standards from the ASCA Mindset & Behaviors for Student Success
  • Collaboratively deliver additional developmentally appropriate and prevention oriented curriculum as needed based on school/site specific goals and needs
• Appraisal and Advisement
  • Explore student abilities, interests, and achievement to help them make academic, career, and personal/social decisions and goals about their future
• Counseling
  • Provide developmental and problem-centered individual counseling
  • Provide small group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs (examples: SAIG Groups, Conflict Resolution Groups, Friendship Groups, etc.)
  • Utilizes ASCA Mindset & Behaviors to provide focus to the counseling process
• Indirect Student Services
• Consultation
  • Consult with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, staff, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs
  • Participate in and/or provide professional development opportunities for teachers
• Collaborate with parents/guardians and other educators to assist students with educational and career planning
• Collaborates with parents/guardians and other educators to assist students with social-emotional development
• Works with the EWS team to monitor student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and assists with appropriate interventions
• Provides appropriate information to staff related to the comprehensive school counseling program
• Has an understanding of the key processes in a Professional Learning Community and acts as a contributing as a member of their PLC teams
• Provide support and assistance to students, families, and the school community as they navigate crisis and emergency situations
• Referrals
  • Implement an effective referral and follow-up process for connecting students with school-based services (EX: student request, teacher request, administrator request, or parent request)
  • Refer students with specific needs and their parents to special programs, specialists, mental health resources, and outside agencies when necessary

  • Utilize student information database systems (Infinite Campus) to adjust and monitor schedules
  • Use data to guide program direction, emphasis, and goals
  • Develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program (examples: classroom guidance lesson plans, curriculum map)
  • Communicate the goals of the comprehensive and preventative school counseling program to stakeholders (examples:
    Newsletters, Annual Counselor Agreement, Monthly/Quarterly Counseling Reports, EOY Counseling Data Reports, See Saw Posts, Board of Education Presentations)
  • Measure and share results of the school counseling program activities (examples:
    Second Step Summative Assessment, Monthly/Quarterly Counseling Reports, EOY Counseling Data Report, Contact Logs, ASCA Use of Time Calculator)
• Fair-Share Responsibility Activities
  • Member of building committees (examples: PBIS, EWS, BLT, Tier I, II and III teams)
  • 504 Building Coordinator
  • Fair-share student supervision duties
• Professional Responsibilities
  • Participate in professional development activities to promote professional growth while improving knowledge and skills
  • Uphold the ethical and professional standards of the American School Counselor Association and the Iowa School Counselor Association
