Position: Smith Valley Schools Principal 2026/27
Location: Nevada

Principal & Salary Ranges

Elementary School Range $98,470-$134,044 annually with Employer‑paid retirement, dependent upon previous experience.

Intermediate/Middle School Range $104,276-$139,951 annually with Employer‑paid retirement, dependent upon previous experience.

High School Range $110,183-$145,869 annually with Employer‑paid retirement, dependent upon previous experience.

Terms of Employment

11 Months. Elementary School 210 Days. Intermediate/Middle School 215 Days. High School 220 Days.

FLSA Status

EXEMPT, This is a salaried position assigned to the Licensed Administrator Employee Salary Schedule.

Position Summary

This position functions as the instructional leader and chief administrative officer of the school. Responsibilities include direction of the instructional program, operation of the school facility, coordination of staff and pupil activities, and participation in community affairs in a leadership role. This position is directly responsible to the Deputy Superintendent.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Interpret, communicate, and implement the Lyon County School District's identified goals; gather and analyze data to identify and implement school goals.
  • Select, assign, supervise, and evaluate staff; provide appropriate staff development activities to ensure job effectiveness.
  • Plan, organize, and utilize resources for development and implementation of district and state curriculum.
  • Establish procedures for utilizing the school's budget with appropriate staff involvement and consistent with district budgeting procedures and regulations.
  • Facilitate the School Performance Plan (SPP) Process and meet all necessary guidelines, expectations, and timelines.
  • Establish an effective system for communicating school matters to staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Implement procedures to foster and maintain community confidence in the school by developing an atmosphere of respect, interest, and enthusiasm.
  • Ensure accurate student records and attendance accounting, efficient school facility management, and effective use of transportation services.
  • Direct student counseling and discipline activities to ensure compliance with board and state standards.
  • Organize, coordinate, and supervise co‑curricular and extracurricular activities, ensuring safety and crowd control.
  • Utilize, coordinate, and evaluate all district services and programs affecting school operation.
  • Plan, organize, and implement emergency procedures related to student and staff safety.
  • Delegate duties for effective staff utilization but assume final responsibility for overall school program.
  • Encourage professional growth of teachers through training, experimentation, and evaluation.
  • Supervise maintenance of school records and complete reports timely.
  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements of government agencies.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance/Janitorial Supervisors for a safe, clean, attractive building and grounds.
  • Appropriately handle stress and work cooperatively with peers and supervisors to improve learning environment.
  • Maintain regular and consistent punctuality and attendance.
  • Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
  • Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
  • Perform other duties related to the position as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education and Training: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
