The Concrete Engineer is a team member of Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE). This position’s primary role is to provide support to construction operations, perform analysis, and design to Kiewit projects, including a direct impact to other teams within the engineering district. Project involvement can be at any stage (Get Work or Build Work) of a project’s life cycle. Get Work tasks include proposal development, Task Force participation, technical proposal design including alternative technical design concept (ATC), and proposal cost estimating support.
Build Work tasks include Task Force participation, development of final designs including concrete troubleshooting, project specifications, concrete mixes, testing procedures, thermal control plans, durability and service life engineering, construction engineering, and construction operations oversight. Projects may rely on KIE technical resources, consultants, and/or subcontractors for staffing engineering related construction tasks, and deliverables may include technical solutions, design reports, memorandums, and letters subject to KIE’s Design Quality Management Plan.
Field technical support with investigations and site visits may be required during project construction. Concrete Engineering is a specialty service with high visibility and professional expectations. Travel is projected to be approximately 25% and may be anywhere in North America. Continued job-related learning is encouraged and expected.
Preferably located in Lone Tree, CO. Based on experience, position may be located at Bellevue, WA or Woodcliff Lake, NJ.
Responsibilities- Assist the Chief Concrete Engineer in providing and managing concrete technical solutions
- Support pre-bid evaluation, design constructability reviews, technical risk assessments and construction operations work planning (placing procedures, pumping, constructability reviews, mix design, value engineering, troubleshooting, proposal development, training)
- Assist in improving concrete quality and reducing issues through proactive engagement with jobsite personnel
- Collaborate in developing concrete related design requirements and specifications for construction
- Interpret concrete materials properties and construction quality results including process control data
- Serve as field engineer during construction when opportunities align
- Interpret/learn/apply client-specific design methodologies, specifications, and standards
- Develop and maintain internal and external client relationships and construction partners, including project and non-project related face-to-face meetings
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. Master’s degree with emphasis in concrete or related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience directly applicable to concrete (including mix designs, thermal control analysis, service life engineering, forensic analysis, troubleshooting, testing procedures, applicable codes, standards and best practices, ACI)
- Active US PE required
- Ability to travel in North America (approx. 25%)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of concrete industry standards (ASTM, ACI, CSA)
- Experience with industry software for concrete mixture proportioning, thermal modeling, and service life analysis
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Regular, reliable attendance
- Work productively and meet deadlines; communicate effectively with supervisors, employees, and others
- Perform work safely and follow instructions and policies
- Work hours may include overtime and weekends; travel and varied locations may occur
Compensation base compensation is listed as $105,000/yr - $125,000/yr. Final compensation varies by education, experience, skillset, and location.
