Senior Mechanical Engineer

BMZ USA, Inc. develops and produces high‑tech lithium‑ion battery systems and is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team.

BMZ USA is one of the four development and manufacturing sites of BMZ Group that employs almost 2,000 people worldwide. In the last five years we have transitioned from a sales office into a development and manufacturing company. New customers and double‑digit growth are what we have seen and what we are positioned for.

Participate in the mechanical design, development, prototyping, and manufacturing support of lithium‑ion batteries, chargers, energy storage systems, and production solutions.

• Design and draft parts, prints, and assemblies using Solid Works.
• Design for injection molding (plastics), sheet metal fabrication (stamping, bending, welding, and cutting), CNC machining, and 3D printing.
• Prepare drawings from concept to support all phases of the product development lifecycle, including prototyping, design iteration, and mass production.
• Contribute to a multi‑disciplinary product development team.
• Lead and/or participate in the validation of internal and outsourced components and assemblies.
• Provide technical expertise and consulting to customers and suppliers.
• Provide technical guidance to members of the industrial engineering teams and management.
• Participate in the design reviews of mechanical concepts, drawings, and designs of team members.
• Collaborate with Project Leads, Purchasing, Production, and Quality departments during all stages of project development.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation as needed.
• Prepare and maintain production documentation for parts and assemblies, such as bills of material (BOM).
• Collaborate with the Quality department in the development of project functional specifications, such as DFMEA, FMEA, and design qualification documents (PPAP, etc.).
• Occasional travel required (both domestic and international).

• BSME with significant experience (DENG or MS favored).
• 5+ years of related experience in electronics packaging and manufacturing.
• 8+ years of experience with CAD design in Solid Works.
• Must be fluent in English and able to communicate with others effectively.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products.

• Strong understanding of injection molding (plastics) tool design.
• Strong understanding of ingress (dust/water) protection strategies.
• Extensive experience with CAD modeling systems (ie. Solid Works).
• Strong quantitative, design, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience with wire bonding technologies.
• Experience with encapsulant injection.
• Experience with laser and ultrasonic welding technologies.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Core working hours are per the office schedule, typically 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST., Monday through Friday; occasional overtime and weekend hours will be required. The noise levels in some manufacturing facilities frequently may exceed the normal dBA. Work conditions in the manufacturing facilities may include elevated noise levels requiring hearing protection.

The employee may be required to occasionally wear PPE such as safety glasses and possibly hearing protection, as well as proper grounding equipment to eliminate the chance of electrostatic discharge.
