Job Description
Dewberry is seeking a Senior Rail Project Engineer. The team player will join Dewberry’s national Transportation Service Line as part of the growing Transit and Freight Rail Practice. Candidate must have a BS degree in Civil Engineering and a minimum of 10 years of civil and rail design experience. Knowledgeable of AREMA track design standards and an understanding of signal systems, OCS, and traction power requirements.
Prior experience with local transportation agencies and clients such as MTA, LIRR, Metro North, NJ Transit, MBTA, Amtrak, and Freight railroads is highly desirable.
- Applies broad knowledge of railroad principles and practices to support design teams and junior engineers.
- Provides a resource of railroad operational and maintenance practices to design teams.
- Works on projects of small size or portions of larger projects.
- Supports preparation of written plans, reports, and provides overall QC review of contract documents for compliance with AREMA, FTA, and FRA requirements.
- BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field. PE License is required.
- 10 years of experience, with a strong technical background in track design and maintenance.
- Position requires competence preparing rail and rail-related civil designs, including development of horizontal and vertical alignments. Understanding of rail outage impacts and maintenance requirements for track and rail bridge structures.
- Experience in transportation engineering, including inspection and/or design for freight rail or passenger transit facilities.
- Experience in the following technical areas:
- Vertical and horizontal rail alignments,
- Experience with AutoCAD and Micro Station,
- Grade crossings,
- Grading/drainage design,
- Rail facilities design.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Local experience is highly preferred.
- A willingness to engage in business development activities in order to meet growth objectives.
- Strong leadership talents and demonstrated success supervising people.
