Overview

Design Engineer - Demountables  Demountables Design Engineer designs, tests, and documents components and assemblies used in Stellar Industries products. The role considers cost, material availability, strength, ease of use and maintenance, manufacturability, and appearance when producing concepts and designs. Applies knowledge of mechanical systems to support the functional and physical requirements of Stellar’s vehicle mounted demountable equipment, including hooklifts, roll-offs, container trucks, and related accessories.

Responsibilities
  • Perform design calculations and prepare equipment and/or material specifications.
  • Produce concept and final designs in 3D CAD and draft those designs in 2D for manufacturing use.
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on structural designs.
  • Coordinate work with other Engineers or Engineering Technicians.
  • Design and coordinate testing of designs to validate functionality and safety of concepts.
  • Compile data and prepare reports related to research and testing of new and existing products.
  • Provide design support for Manufacturing as needed.
  • Follow safety rules and promote a culture of working safely.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • General knowledge of Microsoft 365 products with proficiency in Word and Excel.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret engineering drawings and other technical documents.
  • Familiar with structural welding and weld symbols.
  • Knowledge of ASME GD&T standards and their application.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems in the automotive/work truck industry preferred.
  • Ability to measure physical components accurately using measuring tools.
  • Familiarity with FEA software and interpretation of simulation results.
  • Strong applied mathematics skills (physics, trigonometry, statistics).
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D design software;
    AutoCAD and Solid Works preferred.
  • Knowledge of ERP software and related systems preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in Engineering or related field.
Physical Requirements
  • Regular standing, walking, and use of hands to handle objects, tools, and controls.
  • Frequent verbal communication required.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate up to 40 lbs.
  • May work indoors in a shop environment or outdoors in variable weather conditions.
Additional Requirements
  • Company-sponsored continuing education and training.
  • Some overnight travel may be required.
  • Valid driver's license.
