About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for an Environmental Liaison Officer to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, historic heritage and Aboriginal heritage at the Quarantine Station in Sydney Harbour National Park.

As an Environmental Liaison Officer, you will be responsible for coordinating environmental planning and assessment, including ensuring conditions of approval are understood and implemented for the Quarantine Station. The role promotes awareness, understanding and appreciation of nature conservation, cultural heritage and recreation opportunities to Quarantine Station stakeholders.

About You

Your passion for the environment, coupled with a strong attention to detail will be key to your success in this role. You will have strong communication skills as you will be liaising with both internal and external stakeholders to facilitate opportunities for engagement and the understanding of and compliance with lease and environmental approval conditions. You'll enjoy working as part of a team but be able to work independently or with minimal supervision.

Your enthusiasm will enable you to thrive and succeed in this diverse and dynamic role. Furthermore, you will also have experience in managing projects ensuring deliverables are met at a high quality.

Essential Requirements
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a discipline relevant to the field operations of the agency.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, policy, procedure, leases and licences. Legislation includes the National Parks and Wildlife Regulation 2009, National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 and the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of commercial and non‑commercial stakeholders that have park tenure or interests through lease, licence, employment or membership.
  • Current Australian driver’s licence and willingness to operate 4WD vehicles.
