Regional Transportation Manager

Family Dollar is seeking a Regional Transportation Manager to oversee the daily performance management and execution of domestic outbound transportation operations from our Distribution Centers to our store network. This role focuses on cost and delivery KPIs, carrier evaluations, and process improvement to support our customer‑centric mission.

• Lead and develop a team of salary and hourly associates, including supervisors, coordinators, mechanics, and yard drivers.
• Lead the on‑site carrier teams and collaborate with DC management to meet or exceed performance in outbound utilization, service, backhals, revenue share, and freight cost management.
• Assist in developing the operational vision and strategy for field transportation at the location.
• Assist with development and execution of DC outbound budgets and delivery expense.
• Analyze, measure, and inspect key metrics for store service, carrier utilization, and trailer management for inbound and outbound operations.
• Manage third‑party on‑site Carrier Managers to ensure KPIs are met or exceeded.
• Collaborate with Carrier Managers to resolve equipment and driver issues during store deliveries and backhaul pickups.
• Recommend dedicated carrier procurement and support operational strategies to improve cost and service factors.
• Develop and maintain SOPs for transportation processes and best practices.
• Support network design improvements, software implementation, and development for efficiency and cost containment.
• Foster partnerships with store field operations, DC operations, local vendors, and the community to achieve superior business results.
• Proactively communicate performance metrics to stakeholders and implement root‑cause solutions.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement and customer‑satisfaction opportunities.
• Analyze network data to develop action plans for improved service and expense management.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Flexible work hours and shifts.
• Willingness to be on call on weekends, off‑hours, and holidays.

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or a related field.

• 5–7 years of leadership in transportation operations.
• Knowledge of FMCSA/DOT regulations.
• Experience developing and managing transportation budgets.
• Experience managing carrier performance.
• Previous managerial experience, with preference for exempt associate leadership.
• Customer service and contract negotiation skills.

• Excellent oral and written communication, strong planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

• Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with Transportation Management Systems is helpful.
