Operations Manager
This position is located at our Ft. Dodge, IA facility.
The Facility Manager will be responsible for overall operations of multiple plants:
Fort Dodge, IA, Marshall, MN, and Dodge City, KS (Bulk Liquid CO2 plants). The successful candidate will have intimate knowledge of principles and practices within operations, works to drive safety, compliance, operational discipline, reliability, and profitability. This is a front-line operations role. Accessibility during off-hours (laptop and cell phone) is required. 25% overnight travel annually. Employee will be required to work in different weather conditions, must be able to access elevated electrical and mechanical equipment via ladder systems, scaffolding and man-lifts, and entry to confined spaces.
- Safe and profitable operation of the facility.
- Manages and monitors and adjusts operating process for capacity and efficiency.
- Manages and achieves plant fixed and variable cost goals, to meet financial targets.
- Delivers defined value in annual productivity savings through cost reduction and six sigma projects.
- Directly responsible for daily direction and supervision of a small team of operations technicians and professional drivers.
- Responsible recruitment, training, professional development, and performance management of operations employees and professional drivers.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulatory requirements which include but are not limited to: OSHA PSM/RMP, DOT, FDA, HPFBI, DEC, EPA etc. Adheres to all internal company policies, programs, and standards.
- Maintains relationships with suppliers and customers to meet contractual obligations.
- Develop, plan, and execute short, and long-term maintenance strategies to ensure reliable, cost-effective operations.
- Manage the sites portfolio of capital and expense projects.
- Maintains facility QA program and facilitates both customer and internal corporate audits.
- Maintains documentation of equipment and process changes (MOC, Variance, MVF, QA).
- Engages internal and external engineering resources to support project needs or technical assistance.
- Reacts urgently to plant operations issues, garnering the required resources to minimize impact to customers and the business.
- Periodic travel between the Ft. Dodge, IA, Marshall, MN, and Dodge City, KS facilities required.
- Ensures compliance with all local, state, federal, and Linde’s policies regarding safety, environmental, permitting, DOT, and product quality requirements.
- Responsible for reviewing plant distribution maintenance expenses and recommending cost savings initiatives.
- Interviewing, hiring, and training to fill open positions.
- Ensure training records are kept on all employees, and all necessary training is scheduled, attended, and completed.
- Responsible for reviewing trip efficiency, safety data, and developing / implementing action plans for improvement.
- Manage fleet maintenance schedules to minimize impact on operations and customers, while maintaining the material condition of the equipment.
- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering Discipline and 3+ years Operations & Management experience or 5 years Technical Operations & Management experience required.
- Comfortable managing multiple tasks and making informed decisions.
- Proven ability to lead and quickly adapt to changing situations.
- Strong communications skills, and a strong will to build and maintain productive relationships across departmental lines.
- Must be a result oriented, self-starter with the ability to drive execution of projects and tactical initiatives.
- Proven knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls Systems.
- Accessibility during off-hours (laptop and cell phone) is required.
- Approximately 25% overnight travel required.
- BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering and 5+ years Operations Management experience.
- Previous experience with ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Knowledge of screw compressor maintenance and troubleshooting.
