Position
Description:
On shift, maintenance operators are responsible for performing preventative maintenance on equipment as well as repairs to minimize mill production delays, following all maintenance JSAs and SSAB’s safety policies. The ideal candidate will have maintenance experience related to heavy manufacturing and be willing to work rotating swing shifts.
Essential Responsibilities / Functions- Perform assigned preventative maintenance tasks.
- Perform repairs on rolling mill and finishing equipment.
- Fabricate and assemble new equipment.
- Perform rebuilds of components utilized in the rolling mill and finishing equipment.
- Evaluate equipment performance.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and electromechanical components.
- Use SSAB’s computerized maintenance system to generate and complete work orders and request spare parts.
- Perform all work utilizing safe work practices.
- Follow all lockout/tag‑out/try‑out programs.
- Follow and practice JSA and EIC program and policies.
– Education and Experience
Experience and competencies required:
- Blueprint reading and equipment manual interpretation skills.
- Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic Microsoft Office suite computer skills.
- Minimum 2 years documented experience in industrial maintenance OR 2‑year industrial/technical degree or apprenticeship training.
- Self‑motivated, troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
- Work safely and independently.
- Work in a team‑oriented environment.
- Pass a weld test (vertical, overhead 1” plate).
- Perform tasks with minimal supervision.
- Work rotating shifts.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Associate’s degree or certificate in mechanical field.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent sitting, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.
- Reach above shoulder level and below waist level.
- Use both hands for grasping, gripping, feeling textures and temperatures.
- Lift/carry up to 10 pounds. Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Vision: close, distance and peripheral; depth perception; adjust focus.
- Hearing: in person, on the phone or in group settings.
- Conditions:
extreme hot and cold, wet and humid, fumes, dust, dirt, smoke, confined areas, high places, moving equipment, noise; personal protective equipment required.
- Full‑time, hourly, eligible for overtime.
- Rotating 12‑hour swing shifts (days and nights).
- No travel expected.
