Job Summary
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State‑Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI) is seeking an energetic and talented Nurse Practitioner to join our team and provide medical and psychiatric services to the facility's patient population. This full‑time position offers opportunities for advancement, growth, and development.
Duties- Assess, diagnose, and treat medical and psychiatric problems.
- Conduct physical examinations and interview patients to collect historical and physical data.
- Prescribe medication.
- Interpret, perform, or assist in routine therapeutic procedures.
- Instruct and counsel patients on physical and mental health matters including nutrition, disease, therapy, and human growth and development.
- Complete daily ward/patient rounds.
- Communicate with patients, families, and other clinical staff involved in the patient’s direct care.
- Work as a member of a multidisciplinary team to develop and carry out individualized care plans.
- Complete progress notes per care level and facility guidelines.
- Perform clinical duties such as admission rotations, on‑call, committee assignments, in‑service training, supervision or consultation with other disciplines, staff development, quality assurance, and other duties as assigned.

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in nursing and certification as a clinical nurse specialist, nurse midwife, nurse practitioner or registered nurse anesthetist; OR
- Graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and completion of an advanced practice education program and appropriate clinical experience approved by the Iowa Board of Nursing.
