The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. Considered a member of the nursing team and is expected to know, and will be held accountable for, following infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use.

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides assistance with basic health care needs including daily living activities that may include, but are not limited to, bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care to assigned resident.

• Provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance.
• Delivers age‑appropriate care per care plan.
• Assumes infection prevention and control responsibilities and PPE use.
• Assists with personal hygiene activities (bathing, toileting, grooming).
• Obtains and records vital signs.
• Provides psychosocial support.
• Assists with feeding and meal prep, ensuring positive dining experience.
• Provides transfer, repositioning and gait assistance using proper techniques.
• Documents resident interactions and care outcomes.
• Communicates with charge nurse regarding changes in condition.
• Collects non‑invasive specimens and vital signs.
• Offers housekeeping and laundry support.
• Encourages wellness and recreational participation.
• Participates in departmental committees when required.

• High school graduate or GED (preferred).
• Minimum age 16.
• Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required. Must be obtained within four months of start date or be enrolled in a certification program.
• Annual competency testing and continuing education of 12 hours.
• Required department and state certifications maintained.
• May require valid driver’s license if classified as Sanford Category II Driver.
• Must be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy.
