Performs a variety of duties in the production of food that supports patient/resident care. Executes meal service based on prescribed patient/resident diets. The Senior Cook prepares, cooks, seasons and portions food for patients/residents, staff, and visitors of the designated facility, preparing and serving food within guidelines of menu and dietary requirements. Adheres to food quality standards of appearance, taste, temperature and sanitation.
Maintains labeling and storage of food, equipment, and machinery. Prepares and provides the highest quality and safest food possible to patients/residents, co-workers, team members and guests. Communicates effectively with internal customers and demonstrates strong teamwork skills.
- Cook and prepare food according to standardized recipes and menus, following HACCP guidelines for safety and quality.
- Operate equipment including mixers, slicers, kettles, ovens, grills, fryers, dishwashers, and refrigeration units.
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, sanitation, and cleanliness in cooking and serving areas.
- Adhere to dietary requirements and patients/residents diets while maintaining food quality in appearance, taste, and temperature.
- Document HACCP steps, temperatures, and outcomes as required.
- Communicate effectively with internal customers and work cooperatively with staff and leadership.
- Be capable of standing for long periods and moving around the facility as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions.
- One year of cooking experience with therapeutic diets may be required depending on location; strong restaurant line cooking experience is preferred.
- Serv Safe may be required to obtain within designated time frame, depending on location.
- Must fulfill annual continuing education requirements including departmental meetings, safety education, therapeutic diet training, and mandatory in-services.
