The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of State Training School (STS), is seeking a Youth Services Worker (YSW) to join our team! STS in Eldora provides supportive counseling and behavioral health treatment for young men, ages 12-18, who were adjudicated delinquent. This is a full-time position with a 10-hour shift, typically four days per week, including evenings and weekends.
We offer an attractive compensation package, including shift differentials of $0.90/hour for second shift and $1.00/hour for third shift, along with opportunities for advancement, growth, and development.
Responsibilities:- Assist with daily activities of students and maintain order in living units.
- Provide leadership and structure through interaction, guidance, and monitoring.
- Model appropriate language, behavior, and attitude.
- Engage students during recreation and leisure activities, teaching sportsmanship, fairness, decision-making, and emotional control.
- Escort students to campus programs, communicate effectively, and facilitate treatment programs.
- Provide transportation for students as needed.
- Create a safe environment and ensure emergency medical assistance when necessary.
- Maintain safety using visual observation, hearing, and awareness skills.
- Perform physical control and restraint using trained techniques, assist in searches, monitor contraband, document headcounts, and report security issues.
- High school diploma or G.E.D., or two years of full-time work in a youth service program working directly with adjudicated or at-risk youth.
- Must complete a background check.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license for designated positions.
