Seasonal Shorebird Technician
Join the Trustees of Reservations to protect and manage the unique coastal environment at Crane Estate, Ipswich, MA.
Responsibilities- Perform daily monitoring and management activities for breeding piping plovers and least‑terns, including nest location, protection, and chick monitoring following established protocols.
- Assist with daily reports on breeding status, communicate with the Coastal Ecologist and property management to support barrier beach protection.
- Install, maintain, and remove symbolic fencing and signage to protect shorebirds.
- Assist with predator management, monitoring, and data collection for state census and end‑of‑season reporting.
- Engage with beach goers about shorebird ecology.
- Support property staff on coastal ecology matters and wildlife incidents.
- Perform additional duties such as inland species monitoring, deer browse surveys, and other bird surveys.
- Coursework or experience in wildlife biology, ecology, zoology, environmental science or related fields.
- Ability to identify birds and work outdoors daily under rigorous conditions.
- At least 3 months of field experience (shorebird experience not required).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Physical ability to hike, lift/carry up to 40 pounds, work weekends and irregular hours.
- Valid U.S. work authorization, valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, satisfactory criminal background check.
- Preferred:
Shorebird experience, biological data collection, wildlife tracking, coastal environment awareness, off‑road vehicle operation, radio use.
Salary/Hourly Rate: $18.50–$20.50 per hour
