Founded in 1974 with a deep commitment to research excellence and environmental stewardship, NEB® has become a global leader in the discovery and production of enzymes for molecular biology applications.
Our reagents are trusted by researchers worldwide for their quality and reliability and have played a critical role in breakthroughs across genomics, proteomics, diagnostics and academic research. With a corporate culture rooted in passion, humility and authenticity, we offer a dynamic and inclusive workplace where creativity thrives, voices are heard, and personal growth is celebrated. Whether you are interested in pursuing a research career or supporting our mission through other roles, joining NEB means contributing to meaningful scientific progress in a collaborative, campus-like environment that values both innovation and integrity.
The Role The Research Department invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to engage in research on nucleases. The Postdoctoral Fellow will use in vitro biochemistry and structural biology to characterize the mechanism and substrate specificity of known nucleases and discover new enzymes via genome mining and functional screening. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong scientific communication skills and will have an interest in both basic and applied research.
Howyou will contribute:
- Design and execute experiments to characterize exonuclease and endonuclease biochemistry, including enzyme kinetics and NGS-based assays
- Create clever, high-throughput activity assays for enzyme discovery
- Communicate discoveries and findings to the scientific community through publications and presentations
- Collaborate with internal and external colleagues
- Maintain high standards of scientific rigor, quality of data, and documentation practices
Experience:
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Publication of original scientific work in high-quality journals
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Experience in biochemical and structural characterization of nucleic acid enzymes
- Technical expertise in enzymology, including kinetics
- Experience with enzyme superfamily studies, including genome mining, phylogenetic tree analysis, and ancestral sequence reconstruction
Estimated base salary for a Postdoctoral Fellow is $74,000.
Benefits at NEB Base salary decisions depend on several factors, including, but not limited to, individual qualifications, job location, internal equity, and market data alignment.
