Teaching Assistant (No Experience Required - SLD School)

Location: Ipswich, Suffolk
Hours: Full-Time, Term Time Only

Teacher Active is working with a welcoming and supportive Special School in Ipswich that is looking to appoint a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their exceptional team.

No previous school experience is required. Full training and ongoing support will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to begin a rewarding career in education, SEND, care, healthcare, youth work, or support work.

This specialist setting supports pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), alongside a range of additional needs including Autism (ASC), communication difficulties, sensory needs, and complex medical needs
. If you already have experience working in care, support work, or with vulnerable individuals, this would be highly beneficial but is not essential
.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and specialist staff to support pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties, helping them access learning in a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment.

Every day is different, and you'll play a vital role in supporting pupils' learning, communication, independence, and emotional wellbeing. You'll receive full training and work as part of a friendly, experienced team committed to helping every child achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Assist with engaging classroom activities tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Encourage communication, independence, and personal development.
  • Support pupils with their social, emotional, sensory, and physical needs.
  • Assist with personal care where required (full training provided).
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team.

  • No previous experience is required - full training is provided.

  • Any SEND-related training or qualifications would be an advantage.
