Overview
We have a great opportunity for a Senior Environmental Consultant to join our client based in Suffolk on a permanent basis.
You will be joining the Highways Division – the UK's number one highway maintenance contractor. Our teams use the latest innovations to create effective solutions and offer a range of services including planned and reactive maintenance and highway improvement schemes.
The role involves providing a broad range of desk‑ and site‑based consultancy services across an expanding portfolio of contracts, supporting the development of new service offerings and working collaboratively with design, construction and operational teams to enable the delivery of essential infrastructure services across the UK.
Responsibilities- Identify opportunities for improvement through carbon, biodiversity net gain and sustainability evaluations.
- Take technical ownership by preparing and reviewing reports and project documentation.
- Manage complex and large‑scale projects using resources within the team.
- Draft fee proposals, manage time allocation and achieve utilisation targets.
- Engage directly with statutory regulators, consultees and stakeholders to address environmental constraints and explore opportunities.
- Line‑manage members of the team and actively mentor graduates, contributing to the growth and performance of the Environmental Technical Team.
- Demonstrable experience in a similar role with a proven track record of effectively supporting clients to identify environmental risks and opportunities.
- Sound understanding of UK environmental legislation and guidance.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, managing competing priorities and the expectations of design and operational teams through effective communication.
- Valid UK driving licence and willingness to work from office locations regularly and travel across the UK to client offices and sites.
- Chartered (or pursuing chartership) with a relevant professional industry body.
- Knowledge or experience in sustainability, carbon or biodiversity assessments.
- At least five years of operational experience in construction or infrastructure sectors.
- Proven ability to collaborate with clients, planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders.
- Skills in desk research, data handling, report writing and reviewing, and project management.
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
