The successful candidate will:
Prepare estimates in accordance with GSA policies and procedures;
Review scope and design from relevant drawings and specifications to arrive at an accurate costing assessment;
Record assumptions and identify risks and opportunities, including supporting the development of the risk evaluation from a pricing and budgetary perspective;
Liaise with members of the project team & supply chain to develop and understand methodologies and principles proposed;
Develop labour, plant, material and subcontract pricing from first principles within the Contractor’s estimating software, Candy;
Establish and agree outputs in conjunction with the operations team;
Agree with the project team suitable working hours / shift patterns for the estimate and apply them in the assessment of cost and programme;
Establish and agree with the operations team key construction methodology, sequencing, access, logistics and constraints applicable to the deliverables;
Work with the planner to assist in the development of the project programme;
Support interface with third parties to identify and resolve estimating, scope and methodology-related issues.
Who we're looking for
The successful candidate will have the following qualification, skills and experience:
Degree qualified, or holding an industry-recognised qualification, in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline;
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, SharePoint, Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
Able to develop accurate estimates from first principles, using a structured and disciplined approach;
Strong understanding of risk and opportunity management, including its impact on cost assessment and estimating;
Confident communicator with the ability to collaborate, engage and influence stakeholders at all levels;
Able to interpret drawings, specifications, scope documents and other technical information;
Excellent attention to detail, with strong numerical accuracy across quantities, calculations and cost build-ups;
Good understanding of productivity, outputs, plant and labour build-ups and subcontract pricing;
Experienced in preparing and documenting estimate assumptions, exclusions, clarifications and basis of estimate information;
Background in a specialist geotechnical contractor environment, ideally within piling, with experience in major infrastructure or NEC contract environments desirable.
