Job Overview

Support the Marine PI Lead in all aspects of underwriting and effective management of the Marine PI portfolio, driving growth through established distribution channels and developing new opportunities via international hubs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Negotiate renewals, new business, endorsements, amendments and promised lines in line with underwriting authority.
  • Accept individual declarations to specified line‑slips and agree on special acceptances and referrals to binding authorities, line‑slips and treaties.
  • Lead proactive marketing to meet class and divisional budgets.
  • Develop and maintain long‑term client relationships, including foreign travel when appropriate.
  • Build a strong reputation in the market peer group.
  • Participate in, and where appropriate chair, special projects to achieve long‑term objectives.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting records and client files.
  • Conduct specific account analysis and peer review of risks according to selection criteria and responsibility matrix.
  • Ensure accuracy and upkeep of all written premium data on Charisma for risks written within the area of responsibility.
  • Liaise with Operations and Claims Departments.
  • Act as client liaison for allocated risks and referral point for Assistant Underwriters and Deputies.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures and regulatory responsibilities, providing good customer outcomes and fair treatment.
  • Manage relationships with Customers, Brokers, Coverholders and Service Providers.
Skills & Competencies
  • Relevant underwriting experience specific to Marine PI class.
  • Excellent negotiating ability with brokers and clients.
  • Strategic and innovative thinking, translating organisational vision through goal setting and planning.
  • Commercial awareness of the business and external market to drive growth.
  • Execution focus, building key relationships and ownership of targets.
  • Resilience and adaptability, demonstrating personal resilience and the ability to adapt to change.
