Design Manager

My client is expanding their pre-construction team, and this Design Manager position offers you the chance to join one of the largest family-run construction businesses in the region, working on a diverse portfolio of interesting and challenging projects across multiple sectors.

You'll be supported by an in-house design consultancy team covering architectural, structural and civil disciplines—a resource that sets this opportunity apart from typical Design Manager roles.

As a Design Manager, you'll oversee the design process from tender stage through to construction completion, chairing design development meetings, coordinating external consultants, and working closely with estimating and commercial teams on value engineering initiatives. You'll manage design teams across Suffolk and Essex from the Ipswich office, ensuring information is delivered on time whilst reviewing proposals, maintaining registers, and supporting construction teams as projects progress.

This role suits someone from an architectural, engineering or construction project management background who thrives on coordinating complex design processes and wants to make a real impact on high-quality projects.

The ideal Design Manager will be highly organised with strong communication and diplomacy skills, proficient in Microsoft Office and document management systems, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team. You'll need a clean driving licence and the ability to meet deadlines in fast-paced environments, bringing problem-solving skills and the flexibility to adapt as projects evolve.
