Job Description & How to Apply Below

Working at part of a small frontline team, you will support the delivery of quality youth work , which engages young people.

Volunteers are continually needed across our programmes to enable exciting experiences for young people. As a youth & community volunteer you will be on hand to engage young people in conversation, share your skills or support programmes in practical ways. You will build voluntary and trusting relationships to facilitate non-formal and information education, to build ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ skills.
Ready to start making a difference?

Participate in youth activities, including drop-ins, outreach and detached, with flexibility for evening and weekend commitments.

Creating a Safe Environment

Ensuring young people can access safe and respectful environments which value differences and promoting acceptance, in line with agreed codes of conduct, health & safety and safeguarding guidelines.

Building Purposeful Relationships

Work directly with groups or individuals; share your skills with young people, engage young people in activities or provide a listening ear to those who need to talk.

Enable young people to express their passions, concerns, and aspirations, and where appropriate facilitate opportunities for them to make express this in their community.

Safeguarding and Further Support

Participate in safeguarding training to ensure you are ready to raise concerns in line with our process and refer young people to more experienced staff.

FAQs

Not usually. Some volunteering opportunities require qualifications such as counselling and some need particular skills and experience but relevant training will be provided where necessary.

Inspire will offer training to prepare you for the role and how much training you need, will depend on the role. If you are working with children or adults who are vulnerable you will get Safeguarding Training and will be required to have a Volunteer Enhanced DBS Check undertaken.

How much time do I need to volunteer?

This is really up to you. You can find volunteering opportunities that only take one hour per month, to five days a week – or more. While a lot of volunteering takes place during office hours, you can volunteer at evenings and weekends too, again depending on what you want to do and what opportunities are available. Think carefully about the amount of commitment you are able to give before choosing your role.

All volunteering vacancies will appear on the Inspire website.

Can I claim benefits while volunteering?

Volunteering will not affect your benefits so long as you are still able to meet the conditions for receiving those benefits e.g you need to be free to attend job interviews etc. It is always advisable to let your Benefits Advisor know that you are volunteering.

How old do I have to be to Volunteer?

There are no age limits for volunteering generally but age restrictions are often set to reflect the level of responsibility or experience needed for the role.
