As a Museum Project Officer in the Place Making and Inclusion Team
, you will see the direct impact of your work on the people and places that make Suffolk special. Join us and turn your passion for heritage, culture and communities into action.
In this role, you will support the delivery of the Stepping Stones project, helping museums across Suffolk to develop, improve and thrive. You will work closely with museum staff, volunteers, and partners to maximise opportunities, secure funding, and deliver meaningful projects.
A typical day may include:- meeting with museum staff and volunteers to discuss projects
- administering the Stepping Stone Fund
- providing advice and guidance to museums
- organising training sessions and events
- reviewing funding applications and providing feedback
- writing project reports
- monitoring budgets and project plans
- liaising with consultants and partners on project delivery
You will play a key role in strengthening the museum sector across Suffolk, helping organisations enhance their services and deliver benefits for communities.

You will have:
- strong communication skills, with the ability to advise, influence and build relationships
- experience of planning or delivering projects, including managing competing priorities
- the ability to organise training, events, or engagement activities
- skills in analysing information, reviewing applications, and producing reports
- confidence working with budgets and project plans
- an understanding of museums, heritage, or community organisations
This role sits within Public Health, Communities and Public Safety Directorate and is delivered in partnership with the Association for Suffolk Museums (AFSM). The project is funded by AFSM, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic England, and Suffolk local authorities. You will work closely with the Project Manager for Museums and colleagues across Suffolk County Council, as well as museum professionals and volunteers across the county.
