We are now looking for an experienced Fleet Manager to join the business and take responsibility for managing and supporting the company fleet. This is a key role within the operation and would suit someone with strong practical fleet knowledge, a compliance‑focused mindset and experience working within a busy haulage, container transport or logistics environment.

About the Role

As Fleet Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring our vehicles and trailers are maintained, compliant, roadworthy, cost‑effective and available to meet the needs of the business.

This is not a basic vehicle administration role. We are looking for someone who understands the pace and pressure of transport operations, the importance of vehicle uptime, and the standards required to support operator licence compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Managing the day‑to‑day requirements of the company fleet
  • Ensuring vehicles and trailers are maintained, compliant and roadworthy
  • Planning and monitoring servicing, MOTs, safety inspections and preventative maintenance
  • Managing vehicle defects and ensuring issues are resolved quickly and properly
  • Liaising with drivers regarding vehicle condition, defects, maintenance and availability
  • Working closely with the transport office to ensure vehicles are available for planned work
  • Liaising with garages, suppliers, repair agents and service providers
  • Monitoring vehicle downtime and helping minimise disruption to the operation
  • Ensuring fleet compliance records are accurate, complete and up to date
  • Supporting operator licence compliance and transport legislation requirements
  • Monitoring maintenance costs and helping identify cost‑saving opportunities
  • Arranging breakdown support and repairs where required
  • Managing tyre, fuel, servicing and general fleet‑related requirements
  • Supporting vehicle inspections and audit preparation
  • Ensuring all relevant paperwork and system records are completed accurately
  • Helping improve fleet processes, reporting and overall efficiency
  • Supporting management with fleet performance, compliance and cost reporting
  • Working calmly and effectively in a fast‑paced haulage environment
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Previous fleet management experience within haulage, transport or logistics is essential
  • Strong understanding of HGV fleet maintenance and compliance requirements
  • Experience managing vehicles, trailers, defects, inspections, servicing and MOT schedules
  • Good knowledge of operator licence responsibilities and transport compliance
  • Experience dealing with drivers, workshops, garages, suppliers and repair agents
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritise effectively
  • Confidence using systems, spreadsheets and fleet or transport records
  • Ability to use initiative and make practical decisions
  • A reliable, proactive and flexible approach
  • Strong problem‑solving skills
  • Good understanding of the demands of a busy haulage operation
  • Experience with in container transport is beneficial

Additional Information
