GIS Planning Technician

Position: GIS Planning Technician - Full-Time Role
Support municipal planning initiatives as a Junior GIS and Planning Technician in Iqaluit. Utilize GIS software to enhance community planning and civil works projects in this full-time role.

Working under the Director of Planning & Development, the Junior GIS and Planning Technician focuses on managing and analyzing spatial and relational data. Collaborating with Senior Community Planners, you will assist in community engagement, strategic planning, and compliance reviews to ensure effective urban development. This position offers a unique chance to impact local planning and work within a unionized environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and analyze spatial data through GIS tools

• Support community planners in development facilitation

• Assist in strategic planning and compliance evaluations

• Participate in community engagement activities

• Utilize relational databases for data management

Requirements:

• 2-year diploma in Environmental Technology or equivalent

• Proficiency in ArcGIS and QGIS software

• Valid Class 5 driver’s license

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Understanding of Nunavut’s land ownership and legislation
